Nintendo World Championship: NES Edition feels like Nintendo for the TikTok era

Between WarioWare, NES Remix, and Nintendo World Championship: NES Edition, Nintendo has a thing for chopping its games up. Small chunks, often. When it comes to Nintendo World Championships, the clunky name is by far the longest part. As for the rest of the game, it’s, what, 10 seconds, 50 seconds at a push? This … Read more

The Canon R1 feels rushed, even with three extra years of development

A person with blurred facial features sits in the background, while two Canon EOS cameras, one smaller model (EOS R5) and one larger model (EOS-1D), are prominently displayed in the foreground on a wooden surface.

In some of PetaPixel‘s images of the Canon EOS R1, you may have noticed that the logo was not visible. In some cases this was because there was electrical tape covering it, which is common with pre-release hardware that is on public display. In other cases it was because the “R1” logo fell off. At … Read more

The opening hour of The Alters feels like 11-bit’s first third-person narrative action game

I’ll call it out now: This is the least intriguing article you’ll read about 11 bit’s The Alters, a mix of Danny Boyle’s Sunshine and Duncan Jones’s Moon in which you’re (deep breath) a stranded space engineer who has to create different versions of himself. spawn using backstory branching gadgets to operate a massive, rolling base and escape the apocalyptic rays of the local sun.

The film was held at the Game Developers Conference – “the definition of home audience,” as I wrote at the time – and received a standing ovation from a huge audience in the … Read more
