Summer is usually a quiet time for tech news, but Samsung is going to shake things up a bit. The next Samsung Unpacked event is scheduled for July 10th. It will take place in Paris at 3pm local time, which is 9am ET.
The company released its Galaxy S24 devices earlier this year following its first Unpacked of 2024, so it’s highly unlikely we’ll see new iterations of the traditional smartphone format here (perhaps outside of Olympic-branded models, given Samsung’s sponsorship of that event). There’s a decent chance that Samsung will show off its latest set of foldable phones, though. Rumors suggest it’s also gearing up to unveil a new smartwatch . And then there’s the little matter of the smart ring that Samsung has been teasing for this year.
Here’s what to expect from Samsung Unpacked, July 2024 edition:
Samsung Galaxy Ring
Samsung’s smart ring is the most intriguing upcoming device. It’s a brand-new product category for the company, though Samsung has been preparing for it by refining the health and wellness tech in its other devices in recent years.
The Samsung Galaxy Ring will hit the market “in or around August,” according to the company itself, so it would be a surprise if the device not will appear at Unpacked. After first teasing the wearable at Unpacked in January, Samsung revealed more details about it in February. The Galaxy Ring will come in three colors — platinum silver, gold, and ceramic black — and multiple sizes.
The ring will measure heart rate, movement and respiration to track your sleep. It’s also expected to support fertility tracking. The Galaxy Ring can also be paired with a Galaxy Watch, so if you wear both you’ll likely get more accurate health data.
Naturally, the Galaxy Ring will be compatible with Galaxy phones, but Samsung is pushing to make it work with other Android devices. iOS compatibility was supposed to be fixed in February , so perhaps rival device Oura will remain the go-to for many iPhone users. For what it’s worth, some of the company’s smartwatches are compatible with select iPhones and non-Samsung Android phones.
Samsung has yet to reveal an exact release date and price for the Galaxy Ring. However, that information will almost certainly be announced at Unpacked.
Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6
It’s probably a good time for Samsung to release new foldable phones as we enter the second half of the year and (don’t say this out loud, summer has just started in the Northern Hemisphere) the holiday season. We’ll get a good look at the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 at Unpacked.
The updates are expected to be relatively minor, with rumors suggesting that the Z Flip 6 could get a modest battery capacity increase to 4,000mAh, an option to bump up the RAM to 12GB, and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. Camera upgrades also seem likely, with Samsung reportedly bringing the same 50MP camera seen in the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S24 to the Z Flip 6.
As for the flagship, the Galaxy Z Fold 6, it is expected to feature the same display size and thickness as last year’s model. The cover display may use Corning Gorilla Armor for improved durability, along with anti-glare technology.
It doesn’t look like the cameras will be upgraded, while there may only be a very small increase in battery capacity. However, it’s a safe bet that there will be a chipset upgrade for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
Meanwhile, a leak has suggested that both devices will get a $100 increase over last year’s models. We’ll have to wait until Unpacked to find out for sure if that’s the case.
There’s also some chatter about a more premium Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra, as well as svelte versions of both foldable sizes. These could launch alongside the Galaxy S25 range in early 2025, though. If they do show up at July’s Unpacked event, it’ll likely be a teaser at best.
Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Watch Ultra
Galaxy Watch 7 listings have already surfaced early on some online stores, so we’ll likely see that wearable make an appearance at Unpacked as well. It’s expected to feature a 3nm chipset that could improve power efficiency and performance. The health sensors will also likely get an upgrade.
This being 2024, of course there will be some AI-powered features. A list detailed AI-powered sleep, motion, and communication features, including a smart answer function for the latter.
That’s not all, as there are hints that a Galaxy Watch Ultra is also on the way. A number of leaked images suggest that the device will be thicker than the standard Galaxy Watch models. The device is also expected to sport a rectangular design with a circular watch face. Most intriguingly, the Galaxy Watch Ultra could feature a digital crown-style watch face and button combination on the side instead of a rotating bezel for navigation.
Rumors put the price at $700, which would be a lot more expensive than other Galaxy Watch devices. Let’s hope Samsung has packed enough features into it to make it worth it.

Galaxy Buds 3 and Galaxy Buds 3 Pro
It’s been a few years since the last Galaxy Buds models came out (not counting last year’s FE variant), so they’re due for an upgrade. We’ll likely see both the Galaxy Buds 3 and Buds 3 Pro at Unpacked on July 10.
The two models will be available in silver and white colors and feature an IP57 rating for dust and water resistance, along with SmartThings Find support, according to Android Headlines.
Similar to the Buds 2 Pro, the Buds 3 Pro is expected to feature a two-way speaker designed to deliver richer audio, while the regular Buds 3 has a one-way speaker. The higher-end model is also said to offer adaptive noise cancellation, blade lights, and ambient sound. The Buds 3 Pro are also said to deliver a longer battery life than the budget-friendly model, though both are expected to feature active noise cancellation.
There’s one other big expected change, as rumors on the street indicate that Samsung plans to take a cue from Apple’s AirPods by adopting a stem design. Whether you’re a fan of that size or not, there is one clear benefit to the stem: it puts the microphone slightly closer to your mouth, which should improve call quality. For what it’s worth, when Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Buds Live in 2020, it said they didn’t have an “awkward stem.”
Galaxy Reserve pre-order deals
As it’s done in recent years, Samsung has already made it possible to “pre-order one of the next-generation Galaxy devices on Samsung.com,” qualifying you for “instant Samsung Credit” worth $50 and “up to $1,500 in savings when you pre-order.” Of course, that doesn’t tell us much about what we can officially expect from the company, but it’s a sign that there’s at least something make a reservation, right?
