IPHONE users can expect a surprise boost that will extend battery life and even save you some money.
The information was hidden in an extensive whitepaper that Apple published a few days ago, which highlights the American company’s approach to device repairability and longevity.
In the document, Apple says iPhones will get better support for third-party displays and batteries later this year.
Apple said True Tone will work with third-party iPhone displays later in 2024.
It said: “True Tone requires precise calibration to function properly, and it is not possible to enable a default calibration for third-party displays, which may result in unexpected behavior.
For this reason, Apple disables the True Tone feature when using third-party displays, but enables all other aspects of the display.
“To more fully support third-party components, Apple will allow consumers to enable True Tone with third-party components for the best possible performance starting later in 2024.
“They can turn off True Tone in the settings if the screen isn’t performing as desired.”
True Tone automatically adjusts the color of the screen to match the lighting conditions.
In addition, Apple also said that the battery health Metrics like maximum capacity and cycle count will also work with third-party iPhone batteries later this year.
Apple said: “Currently, battery health data, such as maximum capacity and cycle count, is not presented to consumers whose devices have third-party batteries.
“This is because the accuracy of these statistics cannot be verified by Apple.
An internal Apple analysis has revealed that some third-party batteries sold as new are actually pre-owned, with battery health data manipulated to make them appear new.
“To improve support for third-party batteries, Apple will display battery health metrics later in 2024 with a notice that Apple cannot verify the information presented.”
Apple warned that the accuracy of third-party battery measurements is not guaranteed.
The changes are believed to be part of the iOS 18 updates later this year, but Apple didn’t specifically say this, nor did it provide a timing in the document.
If you’re experiencing performance issues with your iPhone, it’s worth investigating before these features roll out.
Some iPhone owners don’t realize that running out of free storage space can greatly impact the device’s performance.
Apple indicated in March that you must maintain a minimum amount of free space, otherwise major problems can arise.
“For best performance, try to keep at least 1GB of free space,” Apple says.
iPhone Tricks To Try Today
Here are some of the best…
- Cursor typing – While typing, hold down the space bar to turn your keyboard into a trackpad, making it easier to navigate through words and sentences
- Close all Safari tabs – To do this in one go, simply hold the overlapping squares in the lower right corner and press ‘Close All Tabs’
- Delete lots of photos quickly – Press and hold a photo and drag your finger diagonally in Photos to select multiple images at once, then press Delete
- Convert currencies quickly – Swipe down from the top of your home screen (or swipe from left to right on an iPhone X or later), then tap the bar and type in a currency (like $200) and it will automatically convert to your local currency
- Check if you need a battery upgrade – Smartphone batteries deteriorate over time. Go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health and check the maximum capacity. In general, a battery is considered worn out when it has only 80% capacity left. If this is not the case, you can buy a battery replacement from Apple
- Move apps faster – Hold an app until it starts to wiggle, then (while still holding) tap other apps, which will stack them and make it easier to move them.
“If your available storage is consistently less than 1GB, your device may slow down as iOS or iPadOS repeatedly makes room for more content.”
Sometimes app problems aren’t even your iPhone’s fault, but can be caused by slow WiFi or poor cellular connections.
It could also be that an app has a bug. In that case, you can solve the problem by force closing the app (by swiping the app closed in the app drawer).
If you have power saving mode enabled (look for the yellow battery icon), it may limit performance.
And the temperature of your iPhone can have a big impact on its speed.
Make sure your iPhone doesn’t get too hot or too cold, otherwise it may stop working properly.
This comes after an expert warned of two temperature-lowering tricks that could do more harm than good to your iPhone.
Meanwhile, Apple has quietly developed a handy trick for charging the iPhone’s battery, which will soon be available on devices running iOS 18.
