Finally some decent weather around here. And I don’t mean Good again, you perverted sun worshipers. I mean real wind and rain to clear the air. As I sit at my desk next to the window, my eye keeps being drawn to the hypnotic swaying of the treetops. It’s actually quite magical. Maybe I’ll go for a walk later.
Just kidding. I’m glued to my office chair (luckily it’s a very comfortable chair) and I’m ready for a weekend that can only be distinguished from the weekdays by name. This is what we’re all clicking on this weekend!

Probably more Little Kitty Big City. I can’t tell you how I feel about it because I’m good friends with the writer, former RPS scribbler Pip Warr. A juicy conflict of interest. But I can tell you how I feel about cats, and that is: very strongly.

I’m back from meeting a guy about a monkey. The monkey, you might say, didn’t escape. More on that soon! This weekend, hmmm. I might read some more of that Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree, because now that the excellent how-to’s from the guide gang are live, I can finally make my way to the optional stuff. I will spend all my future souls improving my Big Hammer build, because I refuse to bother with any kind of finesse.

I don’t plan on playing many vidyas this weekend, as I’m visiting family and going on a trip, but I still have that Steam Deck that James unwisely lent me. I might see how the nautical survival sim The Pale Beyond does on the train – from the looks of its Steam page, it’s The Terror, only slightly less supernatural.

I have no idea what I’m going to be playing this weekend, other than the usual trinity of Fall Guys, Minecraft, and Dune Imperium. So I don’t know precisely which I’m playing this weekend, but those three are now so standard that they feel like pieces of furniture in my life. I’ll probably try something new too, but I don’t know what yet.

I bought this obscure hidden gem called Elden Ring, and am trying to play it properly. I’ll give it a week before I give up and install one of those easy mode mods, or succumb to FromSoftware’s brain slug that scours comment sections to tell people who didn’t ask for it that being miserable is actually fun.

I’m going to finish the demo of Five Gods of Kung Fu, an indie game I bought on Kickstarter a while back that has you playing as an energetic guy wandering the fields of China, beating up Drunken Monkey style. Other than that, I won’t have any surprises this weekend, as I’m just going to get back to basics and enjoy a few games I’ve mentioned in previous weeks. A bit of Carpathian Night, some Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown (it’s coming to Steam in August, you should all buy it).

This weekend, like every other weekend for the foreseeable future, I’ll be playing Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree. I’m at the final boss (and have been avoiding him for a while because man…what a dick), and I’ve explored most of the areas. But there’s always more to do in Elden Ring, and I still have a whole region left to explore and a questline to blunder through. Sending thoughts and prayers.

I’m going to be alternating between watching The Bear season 3 and trying to defeat Shadow Of The Erdtree’s two remaining big bosses, and seeing which activity causes my cortisol levels to spike to dangerous levels first. I’ve only watched two episodes of the new The Bear so far, and it’s already had one of the most traumatically accurate on-screen family screaming matches I’ve ever seen on a TV show, which predicts… well?

I think all this recent work on Shadow Of The Erdtree has finally gotten me over the 1000 hour mark for Elden Ring. I was thinking of joking about, you know, time to take a break from playing some more Elden Ring! Hard-dee-har! But actually I’m longing for some FPS action. It’s been several months. I think I’ll go back to a Hunt: Showdown, and immerse myself in a different kind of gloom for a while.
But you, dear reader, what are you playing this weekend?
