Book in advance
Booking as early as possible helps you get the best price and availability. You can book up to 12 weeks in advance.
By doing this you can select the train you want to travel on and book your return journey at the same time. There is no option to reserve a specific seat, but you are guaranteed a seat on the train of your choice and a priority row seat upon boarding.
Please arrive 30 minutes before your shift
Give yourself enough time to catch the train. During peak times there are queuing systems in place, where people who have booked in advance are given priority boarding.
Remember, children under 5 are free
If you are traveling with children under 5 years old, tickets are completely free if accompanied by a paying parent or guardian.
Resist the urge to carry your groceries
The temptation to take everything, including the kitchen sink, is great – but there is only so much space on the train. There are excellent supermarkets next to the train station, including a Tesco and a Lidl right on the doorstep.
Reduce the size of your bedding with a free vacuum pack
EMR offers free vacuum packaging to save space in suitcases and on trains. These are perfect for bulky bedding and for those on longer vacations.
To receive your vacuum bag, please contact our Customer Relations Team, call us on 03457 125 678 or email contact@eastmidlandsrailway.co.uk to order your free packaging.
In a group? Take a taxi from the station
If you are traveling to Butlins from the station and there are five of you, it may be cheaper to take a taxi. Taxis from the station to the Butlins entrance cost around £10 and you can pre-book Reds Cabs (which are affiliated with Butlins) on 01754 765555, but there is also a taxi rank across the road outside Costa Coffee.
Take advantage of the rainy opportunities
When the weather turns, there are still plenty of things to do. You can take a trip to the Wonder Circus, look out for posters around town as there are often special offers with kids going free and reduced price tickets.
The Neverland Theatre also hosts its annual summer pantomime, which is always great fun and excellent value for money.
Lazy days by the pool
One of the best value things to do in Skegness when it’s sunny is the Skegness Pool and Fitness Suite next to the Embassy Theatre. On hot summer days, booking in advance is essential, as this outdoor pool can be very busy.
