A pub’s expensive lunch bill has sent the internet into meltdown after he shared a photo of his broken receipt for two sandwiches and two soft drinks.
Leigh Keystone, from Wales, shared with X his frustration at eating out in a “bog standard pub”, which he preferred not to name, in Britain.
Despite only ordering four dishes from the menu and no alcoholic drinks, his bill came to £32.50.
Leigh was annoyed that he and his wife don’t eat out much in pubs, but he was shocked by the price of two cheese sandwiches, two portions of chips and two Pepsis.
People shared customer frustration, saying the price of eating out has “skyrocketed” so many have resorted to eating at home before dining out.

Leigh shared his receipt online and wrote: ‘Don’t eat in pubs often: Pint of coke: £4, Half coke: £3.60, two cheese sandwiches: £19.90, is this normal for a typical pub? My wife said if I say half a Coke was £3.60 again she will leave me!!”
The cheese sandwiches cost a whopping £9.95 each, with the two portions of chips costing another £5.
You would think that a normal Pepsi Max would be twice as expensive as half a pint, but the difference was only 40p. An average Pepsi Max cost £4.00.
The post was viewed over 230,000 times and received 700 comments, with one person saying: ‘The cost of eating out has gone through the roof.
‘My wife and I shared a bacon sandwich from a tea caddy, she had tea and I had coffee and it was just under a tenner! We don’t eat out that much these days (we’re retired).’
Another said: ‘Unfortunately the cost of eating out has gone up massively, it will become a self-destructive cycle that we won’t bother with anymore, we would rather get friends over, spend £30 on snacks or make food than pay too much. Prices have gone up, portions have gone down, it’s not sustainable.’
Someone else agreed, saying: ‘That’s outrageous. My partner and I had a lovely three-course meal with a small beer and a bottle of wine at a seaside restaurant in Spain last night for €70.

“I’m going to avoid this place like the plague from now on.” Leigh muttered. Before adding: ‘It was a rare day out. But never again. LOL’
‘We noticed back then that you couldn’t get anywhere near that at home. This proves it completely.’
“I’m going to avoid this place like the plague from now on.” Leigh fumed. Before adding, “It was a rare day out. But never again. Lol.”
He later added: ‘We had a day out but next time we’ll bring our own cheese sandwiches. LOL.’
However, some people sympathised with local pubs and restaurants, saying their bills are also rising.
One person said, “Yeah, that sounds about right. But before you blame landlords, take a look at what breweries charge landlords and energy costs. It’s ridiculous, but that’s the way the industry is now.’

Another said: ‘Sounds good. An expensive business running a pub and the food, it’s the only area where money can be made with the price of alcohol going through the roof. Food costs are expensive, utilities are expensive, staff costs are high and there are lots of other costs to consider. It’s not easy.’
Meanwhile, someone else wrote: ‘Remember you are paying for the service, the drink, someone to make your lunch, the rent, the electricity, the staff to serve you, to clean up after you, the heating, etc. etc. etc. Running a pub these days is expensive. Most people just barely make ends meet.’
