EasyJet cancels a slew of flights to summer hotspots

EasyJet has canceled a large number of flights at short notice, throwing families’ holiday plans into disarray.

Passengers arriving at Edinburgh and Glasgow airports to check in were sent home as flights were no longer operating. This threw their travel plans into disarray.

One traveler, Sarah Machete, said her wedding in Naples was thrown into chaos after the airline canceled her outbound flights today and offered her a Saturday trip instead.

She wrote: ‘So… was about to leave for the airport for our flight to Naples for our wedding and got a message that our flight was cancelled.

‘easyJet answer…. Your only option is the Saturday flight! No s*** from their customer service.’

Instead of travelling today, the bride-to-be has now been forced to fly to Luton before catching a connecting flight to Naples at 6am tomorrow morning. She says the chaos has also cost her a night in the villa she had booked.

Another man on the same flight said two days of his vacation were canceled due to the last-minute cancellation.

He wrote on X: ‘easyJet cancelled our flight from Edinburgh to Naples and rebooked us, causing us to lose almost two days of our holiday. Why didn’t we book with another airline to take us to Naples today?’

Guy Houston arrived at Glasgow airport with his family at 5am for a package holiday to Tunisia, but was told their flight would not depart until 65 minutes before departure.

He told the Daily Record the family had been informed the flight had been canceled due to storms and there were no easyJet staff to help.

Nearly 400 miles to the south, a passenger named Kate complained that she had been stuck at Bristol Airport for seven hours, leaving her holiday ‘in the dumps’ at Dalaman.

She told MailOnline that the passengers were already on board and had waited on the tarmac for an hour before being told the flight had been cancelled.

“Apparently three flights to Dalaman were cancelled this week. There were rumours it was a staffing issue but they must have known hours beforehand. The flight was already delayed,” she said.

“The crew boarded at 4:00 p.m. and they waited until 5:10 p.m. to cancel. The systems are down.”

Sarah Machete said the cancellations had thrown her dream wedding in Naples into chaos when her flight from Scotland was cancelled, forcing her to spend a night at Luton airport to get there.

She added: ‘We’re going to Cornwall now by car. Lovely. I’m sure all the Turkish lira we’ve bought will go up in value.

‘It’s a scam. All you really want is honesty, clear communication and human interaction.”

EasyJet said it had done “everything possible” to minimise the impact of the disruption on passengers, which it said was due to air traffic control restrictions.

‘We regret that the impact of the ATC restrictions across the network yesterday, caused by poor weather, resulted in some aircraft being out of position this morning and as a result some flights to and from Edinburgh and Glasgow could not operate.’ , a spokesperson for the airline said.

‘We have done everything we can to minimize the impact for our customers and have given those with canceled flights the option to rebook or receive a refund, as well as hotel accommodation and meals where required.

‘The safety and wellbeing of customers and crew is easyJet’s top priority and we would like to apologize to customers for any inconvenience caused as a result of the weather.’
