Birmingham Airport faces queues as passengers claim ‘health and safety disaster’

Passengers at Birmingham Airport this morning have spoken of even longer security queues. One holidaymaker described the scenes as a ‘health and safety disaster’.

The traveler estimated that there were more than 1,000 people waiting in line today, Thursday June 27, at 5:30 am. He had waited in line for an hour and still hadn’t gotten to the elevators to get through security.

One passenger told BirminghamLive: “We’ve been queuing for over an hour and still haven’t gotten to the lifts. It is literally a health and safety disaster because animals are not treated that badly. I estimate there are about 1,000+ people there at 5:30 am. to stand in line. It’s something akin to a third world operation.” BirminghamLive has contacted the airport for comment on the latest situation.

A temporary fluid monitoring structure has been put in place to alleviate the situation. Problems with queues are said to have been partly caused by last-minute government changes to the rule for a maximum of 100 ml of liquid in hand luggage.
