What is listeria?

Most people who contract listeriosis, caused by the bacteria listeria, will experience mild symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea.

However, according to the FDA, more serious complications can occur in people with weakened immune systems, infants, the elderly, and pregnant women.

Listeria can occur in many foods, but it is most commonly found in unpasteurized milk, soft cheeses and ready-made meals such as pre-packed sandwiches.
