Happy Monday everyone! Yes, I wrote that in all sincerity. We all deserve a happy Monday – maybe video games can help with that. As you’d expect, Elden Ring’s recently released Shadow Of The Erdtree DLC remains this week’s Big Kahuna, with no obvious mega-releases on the horizon to break its stranglehold on the discourse, but I’ve got my latex-gloved hand in dipped the maternity pools and fished out a few promising oddities.
Monday, June 24 starts with the bone-throwing dungeon solitaire Dice & Fold. On Tuesday, June 25, we have the remake of the mystical 90s point-and-clicker Riven – now with real-time 3D environments, shock – along with the magical realist high school visual novel Until Then and the Argentinian folk horror Pomberito, in which a farmer must survive for five nights while researching a local beast. Jumping ahead to Thursday, June 27, there’s some Orpheus DLC for the RPG musical Stray Gods, and early access to the 30-player last-person mode ’em up Battle Crush. On Friday, June 28, there will be early access to the tornado hunting simulation OUTBRK, which allows you to track the bad weather on a map of 625 square kilometers.
Here at the RPS Treehouse we’ll be spending a fair portion of the week feeding the Maw the freshly hewn Erdtree pieces, but we’ll also be running our mitts on a co-op anime shooter that I won’t spoil, on the dredging up long-forgotten Aliens games, and possibly finding time for a stylized retro FPS or two. The Maw would normally consider this spartan fare, but there’s so much molten Elden Ring DLC coursing through its Cyclopean veins that I think we can get away with it. Even the Maw takes time to digest.
Diablo 4 is getting a wave-based rogue-lite Infernal Hordes mode in Season 5 – more here.

A Modder has turned a Hard Drive joke, about a Stardew Valley ‘Hardcore Mode’ that deletes your save if you look up guides, into a reality via GamesRadar.

British retail chain GAME has denied a report suggesting they were planning to stop selling physical games, whatever they are, through VG247. Admittedly, I too occasionally feel the ghostly pain of this widespread Mandela Effect, whenever I read a shampoo bottle on the toilet and suffer vivid hallucinations of something called a “manual.”

Former Days Gone creative director John Garvin is back at it, tweeting about his pitch for a sequel, which game director Jeff Ross has said will “never happen.”

Maw enthusiasts may have noticed that this week’s live blog article has been formatted differently, with what I hope is a slightly more compelling and transparent headline. The Maw is in a state of evolution – a terrifying time. So we especially welcome your thoughts on its future in the comments.

A tucked away item found early on in Shadow Of The Erdtree effectively adds Sekiro’s parry, adding a whole new dimension to the battle. Cheers, PC Gamer!

A former Creative Assembly developer who worked on Rome 2 and Atilla before leaving the studio has posted a lengthy account on Medium detailing his negative experiences with both the leadership structure and being blamed by fans for the shaky release of Rome 2.

Post-apoc city builder New Cycle, which Sin wasn’t entirely convinced of, has a new early access roadmap. “Cormac McCarthy’s The Roadmap,” they should call roadmaps for post-apoc games. Planned additions include *squints* “luxury consumer goods”? Apocalyptic indeed.

I played a bit of the chivalric platformer Renaine’s demo this weekend and enjoyed it. While Shovel Knight is the obvious comparison, it also gives me a very faint Mystery Dungeon vibe.

Slay The Princess developers Black Tabby Games have said they’re okay with you pirating their game if you can’t afford it. The game is currently getting a boost thanks to a Markiplier video from last weekend.

From Game Informer via VGC, Obsidian’s Avowed is apparently a roundabout as long as their previous sci-fi RPG The Outer Worlds.
