Limited Run Games unveils four PS1 games for PS5 and PS4
Retro game re-release provider Limited Run Games recently revealed four new PS1 games coming to PS5 and PS4 in 2025 during the LRG3 2024 showcase. Last year the publisher got us excited with five PS1 ports with PS5 trophies set to release in 2024, so it’s not too surprising to see them pull off the same magic trick this year.
Just like last time, these new PS1 ports for PS5 and PS4 will use Limited Run Games’ “Carbon Engine”, allowing these classic titles to implement modern features like trophy support. Check out all four PS1 games coming to PS5 and PS4 with Trophy support below!
Tomb 2
- Where available, you can find the Tomba 2 Trophies here
- PS5 release date: to be determined 2025
- Genre: Platformer
We’re pretty close to launching Tomb 1 on PS5 and PS4 on Monday, August 1, 2024, so why not start building hype for the sequel now? Tomba 2 The evil pig return originally released in the West on PS1 in the year 2000 and was relatively well received.
Critical feedback largely focused on it being a little too similar to the original Tomba, but honestly, it’s hard to see that as a criticism these days. Both Tomba And Tomb 2 are an absolute joy to play, combining 2D platforming with some clever 3D lane-changing tricks.
There are also some innovative RPG elements that are way ahead of their time, so be sure to give both games a try when they release on PS5 and PS4!
Anxiety effect
- Where available, you can find the Fear Effect Trophies here
- PS5 release date: to be determined 2025
- Genre: Action adventure
Tragically, the Anxiety effect franchise name has seen a bit of rough love after the highly anticipated third game in the series was released on PS4 in 2018 to brutal critical reception. So it looks like the series champions are going back to square one, this time releasing the original PS1 game on PS5 and PS4.
Originally released on the PS1 in 2000, Anxiety effect was a stunning showcase of what cinematic action-adventure games could look like on the PlayStation. While the controls may suffer by today’s standards, this classic certainly still has many strengths thanks to its expert direction and progressive cel-shaded art style.
We’re hoping we can unlock a Platinum Trophy when it releases on PS5 and PS4, because that’s just the incentive we need to experience this PS1 gem again.
Force and Force 2
Both Armed Forces and its sequel Force 2 were developed for PS1 by Core Design, the studio behind the first Tomb Raider games. Since the studio had so much 3D gaming history on the PS1, players expected huge success from the Armed Forces games.
Instead, they got a fairly mixed bag. The first Armed Forces was a simple 3D beat ’em up that lacked the flair and charisma of previous examples of the genre like Capcom’s Last battle. Then the developers got involved in shooting mechanisms Force 2which made it play like a less exciting version of Sony’s Siphon filter.
So it’s safe to say that you’ll be bundling both games together for the Military forces collection won’t deliver the most exciting PS1 game compilations for PS5 and PS4. Still, there’s plenty of novelty to love when revisiting these Core Design titles today, so we’re still looking forward to giving them another run in 2025.
