The airport confirmed that staff had been deployed to avoid queues during peak times. Staff will stand in front of the scanners to ensure passengers only carry 100ml containers of liquid.
There have been fewer reports of disruptions so far this week, but passenger concerns remain about what to do with liquids and how long to leave for a flight.
This morning, June 19, a BHX traveler said he got through security from his car to the departure point in one hour and ten minutes.
Birmingham Airport CEO Nick Barton took BirminghamLive around the airport on June 11 to update us on work at the terminal, where we asked him key questions about issues such as escalators, lifts and other long-term traveler concerns , winding queues.
Mr Barton revealed that key elements such as escalators had been removed for ‘health and safety’ reasons. The under-fire boss went into detail about how they battle the chaos caused by queues, which you can read more about here.

Software is checked
As we reported, a last-minute directive from the UK government insists passengers can only carry liquids, pastes and gels up to 100ml in their hand luggage. BHX had expected the 2-litre rule to come into effect by June 1, easing nearly 20-year restrictions on liquids and introducing the airport’s new state-of-the-art equipment. But government transport chiefs announced they would have to re-validate all software on every machine (including at other UK airports such as London City, where the 2 liter limit had already been introduced).

“There were plenty of staff to help and provide guidance, and the new scanners worked very well.”

How long do I have to leave before my flight?
Most airlines have instructed BHX flyers to arrive at the airport three hours before departure.
This was echoed by BHX boss Nick Barton, who said: “Check with your airline – they all give very good up-to-date information. Normally it takes three hours but it depends on the airline. Follow that advice.”
