PlayStation State of Play May 2024 live coverage – All the news as it happens

Refresh

Okay folks, here we go. Do we think the leak will be accurate?

You can also watch on Twitch

Only 10 minutes left, grab your popcorn.

I’m not going to include it here for fear of spoilers, but there’s a rumor going around that the entire State of Play lineup has been leaked. You can see it here on Twitter. It’s an interesting lineup, and we here at GamesRadar+ are extremely excited about a new Astrobot.

What about Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater? We don’t have a release date for that yet and it feels like a game that will appear on the Summer Game Fest schedule somewhereCertainly?

The live stream has started and is counting down if you want to get it ready

Pragmata

The game that’s always lurking in the back of my mind is Capcom’s Pragmata. Originally revealed in the 2020 muds, we’ve barely seen any of it since, aside from Capcom indefinitely delaying the game during its own showcase last year. It’s essentially Capcom’s take on the dad game, but with more of the telekentic powers and mechanical enemies you’d find in God of War or The Last of Us.

Death stranding 2

If Sony focuses on some PlayStation Studios games, then there’s potential for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach – although I still can’t believe this is the real title. However, if Sony only presents games before the end of the year, that will rule out the return of Sam Porter Bridges, as it will launch in 2025.

Dragon Age Dreadwolf

Speaking of games we’re excited to hear about, BioWare, it would be so nice of you to say something, anything, meaningful about Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, the upcoming sequel that’s seemingly primed for a full reveal this summer.

It doesn’t even have to be during the PlayStation State of Play today! You can do it whenever you want! But it would be very good of you to say it during the state of affairs. (And if we’re feeling wishful thinking, whatever the next Mass Effect game will be, it would be wonderful to see, too.)

Marathon

…not that I would mind if Bungie did basically say something about Marathon, the upcoming return of the developer’s classic franchise. The upcoming sci-fi PvP extraction shooter was revealed this time last year at the PlayStation Showcase, and not much has been said about it since. It would be nice to see more, but The Final Shape feels like a more likely suspect.

Destiny 2 The ultimate form of art

There’s at least one extreme gimme here: it would be wild if Destiny 2’s The Final Shape didn’t show up somehow. Yes, Bungie also has Marathon cooking somewhere in the background, but the upcoming expansion will release next week, on June 4. That is… very, very quickly.

The timing of today’s awkward leak of The Final Shape is also hugely suspicious. But even if that has nothing to do with anything else, it seems like a good opportunity to show even more of what seems to be a great time. That is, at least according to our lengthy hands-on preview.

Astro Bot rescue mission

As usual, there are also some pretty confident bangers doing the rounds ahead of the PlayStation State of Play. As we noted when the State of Play was announced, some sort of new Astro Bot game and a Lego title set in the Horizon universe have been the subject of ongoing rumors in recent weeks. What exactly either will look like remains to be seen. But maybe they’ll both show up today?

Marvel's Wolverine

Speaking of titles we haven’t heard much about yet, Marvel’s Wolverine from Insomniac Games is also still somewhere on the horizon. A bunch of leaked information about the game came out late last year, but any real news straight from the source has been minimal since its announcement in 2021. Considering the upcoming release of the Deadpool & Wolverine movie in July, it feels like this is the perfect moment is. time to pull back the curtain a little further.

Play station

When we get into “what else could show up” territory, things get a little wilder. For example, we haven’t really heard much about Fairgames, the Payday-style shooter from Jade Raymond and Haven Games, since it was first revealed at a PlayStation Showcase this time last year. Looks like we’re due for an update, right?

Silent Hill 2

Another likely suspect for today is Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 remake. Not only is it coming to PS5 this year, and not only does it currently have no firm release date, but the Konami franchise Also coincidentally has some sort of showcase for later today, after the PlayStation State of Play. Of course, the timing could theoretically be a coincidence, but that would be extremely coincidental.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 seems like a likely participant in today’s state of affairs. The redesigned vampire RPG from developer The Chinese Room and publisher Paradox Interactive currently only has a vague release date for “Fall 2024.” What fuels the possible fire even further is the fact that the game has been regularly releasing new facts about the various clans in the game lately. This seems like the perfect opportunity to announce a release date for the multiplatform game.

Here’s the reveal so you can catch up:

Concord game ps5

Concord is currently one of a few confirmed 2024 PS5 exclusives set to release later this year. It comes from Firewalk Studios, a new developer made up of Destiny veterans, which bodes well for this competitive FPS.

We haven’t seen much of the game yet. The game was announced and last seen at last year’s State of Play in May. If the release is still planned for this year, we’ll need some more information and a look at the gameplay.

So let’s start with the games we could see. AKA the PS5 titles already confirmed for a late 2024 launch window… and they’re pretty slim pickings.
