Skoda’s EV family is set to grow with a new MEB-based crossover and we have the scoop

Officially announced last year via a silhouette teaser, the 2025 Elroq represents the Czech automaker’s electrified successor to the combustion-powered Karoq in the ever-popular compact crossover segment.

Sharp clothing
The Elroq’s design is essentially a scaled-down version of the Skoda Enyaq and is both striking and reminiscent. It has split lighting units, with Matrix LED high beams placed lower in the bumper. The front fascia is further accentuated by a sleek, fully enclosed grille, a sculpted bonnet adorned with a new Skoda wordmark, vertical air curtains and a sleek lower intake.
From the side, it boasts a prominent character line and sharp surface, exuding a sleek and modern aesthetic. A sloping windshield and muscular rear haunches contribute to its dynamic profile. At the rear you’ll find an angular rear window, a wraparound spoiler, a minimalist bumper and angular taillights reminiscent of the Enyaq.
Interior smart
Inside, the Elroq aims to impress with an extensive, independent infotainment system, supplemented with a compact digital instrument panel and a head-up display. A two-spoke steering wheel contains physical buttons and haptic scroll wheels for intuitive operation. Additionally, a mobile digital key will enable users to access a plethora of features through their smart devices, increasing convenience and connectivity.

Skoda has indicated that the Elroq will be approximately 4.5 meters long, making it an ideal family car with a spacious and practical interior.
Built on VW’s MEB platform, the Elroq will share components with its electric counterparts. Intelligent Speed Assist adds another layer of safety and comfort by using traffic sign recognition and navigation data to adjust the car’s speed smoothly and in anticipation. For example, the system continuously and smoothly reduces the vehicle’s speed to the limit of 50 km/h before entering built-up areas.
Watts to burn
Battery specifications are yet to be confirmed, but our sources suggest the Elroq could be equipped with a 62 kWh or 77 kWh pack. The base model can use the smaller 62 kWh package, paired with a rear-mounted engine that generates 177 hp (132 kW / 179 hp) and 229 lb-ft (310 Nm) of torque. Higher-end models could have a 286bhp engine, while a more powerful dual-motor all-wheel drive variant could offer up to 340bhp in vRS guise.
Expect a range of more than 560 km on a single battery charge. In addition, the car has pre-conditioning functionality, which preheats the battery to optimize DC charging speed in colder ambient temperatures.
Rivals and reveal
The Elroq will face stiff competition from Kia’s Niro EV, Ford Explorer (no, not the US model, but Ford Europe’s VW Group MEB-based EV), Mini Aceman, Volvo EX30, MG 4, Smart #1, Jeep Avenger and Renault Megane E-Tech.
An official unveiling is expected this fall, with sales likely to begin shortly thereafter as a 2025 model year model.
