Update 7/9/2024 at 5:50pm PT / 8:50pm ET: Responding to feedback on launch day, Once Human developer Starry Studio has unlocked the ability for players to create multiple characters. This gives fans who want to recreate their character or play on a different server the ability to do so, though it appears that characters still cannot be deleted. The studio noted in a post on the Once Human Discord server that it “initially closed multi-character creation due to the experience not being good enough,” but decided to bring it to the game as soon as possible after the feature’s absence at launch was widely criticized.
What you need to know
- Once Human is a new multiplayer survival game from developer Starry Studio and publisher NetEase in which players join a server to play and create their own character.
- Now that Human is out on Windows PC, players are quickly realizing that there is currently no way to delete your character if you want to start over, or to switch to a different server if you accidentally end up on the wrong one.
- Combined with the fact that the game currently does not support multiple characters, these restrictions essentially force you to play on the server you initially chose and with the character you initially created, as you cannot go back or make changes.
- Luckily, multiple characters per account are coming in August, which is a way to get around these issues. Until then, be very careful when choosing a server and creating a character.
- Update: Responding to feedback on launch day, Starry Studio has updated Once Human to give players the option to create multiple characters. This gives fans a way to recreate characters or play on different servers if they wish.
Original article: After multiple beta tests over the past few months, the long-awaited survival shooter Once Human is finally here. The game has gained a massive following with its post-apocalyptic, almost Lovecraftian “weird fiction” theme and its promise of deep massively multiplayer PvPvE gameplay in a massive open world, to the point where it launched as the fourth most desired game on Steam . As a result, its arrival has the potential to be one of the biggest game releases of the summer.
One thing players will quickly realize after joining one of Once Human’s servers and creating their characters is that there is currently no option in the game to switch servers or delete your character if you want to start over. As the developers revealed earlier today, there is also currently no support for multiple character creation at launch.
Simply put, once you’ve chosen where you want to play and who you want to play as, you’re stuck. And unsurprisingly, that’s frustrating for many players who’ve chosen a different server than their friends or created a character they’re not happy with. If you haven’t started playing Once Human yet, consider this a warning to take your time in the character creation menu and choose the server you want to play on. terribly carefully.
There are two different types of Once Human servers available in different regions around the world: Manibus and Evolution’s Call. Manibus servers are PvE-only, while Evolution’s Call features the game’s full PvPvE offering; if you plan on playing with friends or loved ones, make sure to select a server in the same region that is of the same type and also has the same name and number.
As for the character creator, don’t rush through it, as there are quite a few different options to choose from for your “Meta-Human’s” hair, eyes, face, body, and cosmetics. There are a number of ton There are also a number of presets you can use if you’d rather not create a character from scratch, so check them all out before you commit to anything.
Given that Once Human has longform progression systems built into the gameplay and the servers are going to be flooded with a flood of players at launch, I can understand not letting people create alternate characters or switch servers. However, not being able to delete your character is a very frustrating restriction that means anyone who accidentally ended up on the wrong server or created a character they wanted to switch will be unable to do so until multi-character support arrives in August. I wouldn’t be surprised to see developer Starry Studio lift this restriction sooner, but until the option comes? Don’t rush when starting the game.
Once Human arrives, the multiplayer open-world survival shooter could be one of the biggest, most anticipated PC games of 2024. Notably, it’s completely free to play, so you can try it out without spending a dime.
