iPhone 16 models coming later this year may feature some ‘design changes’ related to Face ID, supply chain disclosure says DigiTimes said this week.
The original source of this information is the British newspaper The Telegraphthat reported six weeks ago that Face ID component supplier Coherent was considering selling or retooling a manufacturing facility in Newton Aycliffe, a small town in England, after losing a supply deal with a major customer, presumably Apple. The report claimed that Apple would “revamp” the Face ID system on iPhone 16 models.
It’s unclear what changes, if any, Apple is planning to make to the Face ID system on iPhone 16 models. Early rumors suggested that iPhone 16 Pro models could feature an under-display Face ID system, but reputable display industry source Ross Young later stated that that change wasn’t expected until next year.
Other changes to Face ID are still possible for iPhone 16 models, but it’s unclear whether they would result in any noticeable improvements, like faster authentication. Apple routinely makes changes to internals in new generations of iPhones, and they don’t always translate into new features or other clear benefits for customers.
All in all, you can expect some potential Face ID-related changes coming to the iPhone 16 models, but details are still vague at this time. Perhaps more rumors around this topic will surface between now and the devices’ September launch.
