Police seal off scene near major city route – updates

Police have closed the pavement outside a terrace of houses in Perry Barr on one of Birmingham’s busiest commuter routes. A police cordon is currently in place in Walsall Road, opposite Tower Hill Medical Practice.

Several police vehicles were spotted at the scene. Officers were photographed investigating.




The exact nature of the incident is not yet clear. We have contacted West Midlands Police for comment.

Our reporter on the scene said: “There is a police incident underway on Walsall Road, Perry Barr, this morning. The scene is opposite Tower Hill Surgery.

“There is police tape across a section of the houses and the pavement while forensic examinations are carried out at a house. We have contacted West Midlands Police and will provide you with their statement shortly.”

Traffic not affected by police incident

Traffic on Walsall Road is unaffected by police, who monitor a small section of pavement outside residential properties.

Bus lines 51 and 52 will run as normal.

Ambulance not called to scene

According to a spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service, no emergency services were required at the scene.

The police are on the scene.

“I thought a car was firing back”

Another resident said he heard a loud noise early this morning, which he thought was a car backfiring.

They told us: “Around 1:30/1:45am – I thought it was a car backfiring so I didn’t think anything more of it.

“I woke up this morning and everything was cordoned off. This scares me and I’m getting out of here.”

Resident heard ‘loud bang’

A resident told our reporter at the scene that she heard a “loud bang.” She said the noise was heard in the early morning hours.

Cordon present since early morning – claims resident

A local resident, who wished to remain anonymous, told our reporter at the scene: “My son texted me at 6:48am saying everything was cordoned off.

“It’s a busy road and all you hear is traffic. It’s a varied road.”
