What are we playing this weekend?

Yesterday I played badminton. My muscles are sore now. It made me realize that, perhaps more than anything else you could say, weekends are for being sore. Sleeping in, waking up in pain, making a sound like someone three times your age when you get out of bed, and then pretending to be a third of your current age by doing nothing but playing games for the next 48 hours. That’s how we’re going to spend them!

I want to play something with big robots in it. I’m in a big robot mood. Mechwarrior 5? Too samey. Into The Breach? Too small. Armored Core VI? Too 35 lbs. Maybe I’ll just pick a ridiculous anime to watch.

I’m going to the Lake District for a week with some friends, so I’ll be walking over lush grass and thick mud more than I will be staring at a screen and twiddling some thumbsticks. I’m taking my Deck with me though and maybe play it at night before I go to bed. I think I’ll play some more Until Then, a visual novel-esque game I’ve been seriously wanting to write about for a while now, but need some more time. It’s a good one, people.

Ever the indecisive slacker, I’m going to split my time this weekend between Zenless Zone Zero and a review game that, shhh, I’m not allowed to spoil. I also got a late start on Void Stranger, which is “a fun Sokoban-inspired dungeon crawler” in the same way that a sea devil is a “reassuring underwater light source.”

Graham
Fall Guys, Minecraft and Dune Imperium. As always.

Readers, I have to accept that I might like Elden Ring. But don’t tell anyone, I’ve already made too many slick Slack comments about it.
[Editor’s note: fuckin’ knew it.]

I should probably defeat more Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree bosses this weekend, although it doesn’t look like there will be much time for gaming since my mother-in-law is visiting. One of the weekend days will also be spent playing the best game of all: life admin! Can my wife and I manage to book a cheap Air B&B for an upcoming trip to the States? We’ll roll the dice and see what happens…

I’ll have some free time soon to rest and recover from the madness of the release of Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree. To celebrate, I think I’ll play Shadow Of The Erdtree some more. I know that sounds a bit crazy, but I’m almost done with it and it would be rude not to.

Oddly enough, Hades. Not even Hades 2. I thought I’d go back and finally spend some decent time with the first one. I… think it’s probably more charming than it is actually fun to play. Don’t hate me! The characters and the art and the music and the perks are… well, they’re Supergiant. They don’t miss with this stuff. But I find that some encounters just don’t work for certain build types, leaving me worrying about rounding out toolsets instead of having as much fun experimenting as I’d like. Also, some of the weapons feel like they needed a little more love. Lookin’ at you, Bow. Otherwise, I’ve got a game to review on my list. I hope it’s not a secret, or I’m going to stick my foot in my mouth.

My Saturday is reserved for meeting my girlfriend’s parents for the first time. After something this stressful, I think I’ll wind down on Sunday by playing a bit of Civ 6, which I’ve recently gotten back into after a few years of bouncing between Humankind, Old World, and Age Of Wonders IV. I’ve found that I don’t really care about getting good at 4X games. I just want the journey, the discovery, the wonder. It’s also why I tend not to finish long Civ games, because all that wonder disappears in the late game. Who knows, maybe this time it’ll be different. It won’t. But it could.

But you, dear reader, what are you going to play this weekend?
