Buyers ditch Samsung tablets for affordable Amazon choice

A Lenovo tablet costing less than £100 is being praised by buyers for its ‘better screen quality’ than Samsung’s and for being easy to set up

The Lenovo M10 has been slashed in Amazon’s pre-Prime Dale discounts(Amazon)

As a tech journalist, I’m always on the hunt for the latest and greatest from Apple, Samsung and Google. I attend events to get my hands on the latest AI smartphone, the most responsive laptop or the fastest chip. But when I clock out, I’m often looking for a deal that will save me money.

I recently came across an Amazon deal that was too good to pass up. It was so affordable that I abandoned all thoughts of upgrading to a high-end Samsung or Apple tablet in favour of a cheaper alternative. And it costs less than £100.

The Lenovo Tab M10 is currently going for £99 as part of an early Amazon Prime Day deal . If, like me, you just need a basic tablet for binge-watching your favourite Disney+ shows, scrolling through social media, or getting some admin work done, then this could be the perfect choice.

What’s more, unlike many budget tech deals on older models, this 10-inch tablet is only two years old, reports the Manchester Evening News. Apple’s brand new 2024 iPad Pro and Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S9 range are incredibly tempting, but at over £799, these flagship devices may not fit into everyone’s budget.

Mid-range options such as the Google Pixel 11 tablet, which can be picked up for around £399, are also available. The Lenovo Tab M10, despite its affordable price tag, comes equipped with Android 11 software, putting it just two versions behind the latest Android 13 seen on new Google Pixel tablets. It also features a decent 32GB of internal storage, which I think is fair considering the budget-friendly price point.

This model also features Wi-Fi 5 and 3GB of RAM, which reflects its sub-£100 price point. The screen quality of the device is where you’ll notice the difference, however. Instead of a glossy, high-resolution, ultra-high-definition display, the Lenovo tablet offers a 10-inch FHD.

While that size is sufficient enough to comfortably stream your favourite shows and movies, the Full High Definition is a step down from market leaders like Apple’s iPad and Samsung’s Tab S9. But let’s be honest, what more can you expect for £99?

As a tech writer, I’d definitely recommend this tablet if you’re on a budget. And it seems like a lot of recent buyers agree. One happy Amazon customer even claimed it was “better than my previous Samsung,” praising the “excellent screen quality and RAM storage.”

They added: “I have a drawer full of old Samsung tablets that aren’t worth repairing. I wanted something cheap and cheerful for my online shopping hobby. The Lenovo tablet is ideal to have on hand.”

One happy customer shared: “Bought this for my 89 year old mother. Nice, easy to use, installation was easy too because of the backup to her email. Good and a lot cheaper than some lower spec competitors.” Another happy customer who bought it for their young son commented: “Camera is good, battery lasts a long time when playing games with my son. Really good and doesn’t take long to swap.”

Free Amazon Prime Membership

Fancy free takeaway delivery? Access to Deliveroo Plus is one of the many benefits of Amazon Prime membership, including exclusive Prime Day discounts and extras on Hello Fresh, music, books and Prime Video. Normally £8.99 a month, you can now get a 30-day free trial to get access to all the latest deals.

Given the bargain price of £99, there were inevitably a few negative reviews. A common complaint was the ‘sluggish’ performance from users running loads of apps: “Very disappointed with this tablet. Slow to boot, slow to open apps and the main one I bought it for (Prime Video) has a black screen when trying to load. Have done a factory reset and reinstalled apps, still the same.”

The deal coincides with the announcement of Amazon’s Prime Day July 2024 sale, which kicks off on July 16 and 17 and will see discounts on hundreds of products for 48 hours. It has also sparked a wave of early deals, including cheap Samsung phones.
