Passengers have been hit by major disruptions across London on the London Underground, Overground and services to Heathrow Airport.

National Rail warned that all trains between Heathrow and central London had been halted for “tunnel safety reasons”.

Holidaymakers travelling on the Elizabeth Line and Heathrow Express are experiencing severe disruption to and from the airport.

National Rail reported: ‘The Heathrow Tunnel is closed for safety reasons, meaning no trains can run to and from Heathrow Airport.

‘As a result, trains are cancelled or modified.’

Trains on the Elizabeth line between Abbey Wood and Heathrow Terminals 4 and 5 are unable to run.

The Heathrow Express between London Paddington and Heathrow Terminal 5 has also been suspended.

Major disruption is expected until at least 10am and trains will be cancelled or changed, the company said.

According to National Rail, the safety issue was caused by a ‘problem with the ventilation system in the Heathrow tunnels’ and therefore no trains can run until ‘Network Rail has resolved this issue’.

The London Underground’s Piccadilly line still runs to and from the airport.

Trains between Gatwick Airport and East Croydon are also experiencing delays of up to 15 minutes today.

National Rail said this was the result of a number of incidents, including a broken-down train that previously blocked the northern lines.

Disruption on London Underground and Overground

Metro passengers were warned this morning of serious delays to their journeys.

Part of the Central line has been closed, with no service running between Leytonstone in east London and Liverpool Street station due to a signal failure at Stratford.

The rest of the line is experiencing “serious delays”, Transport for London said.

A section of the District line is also partially out of service, with no service between Turnham Green and Richmond while Network Rail engineers repair a track defect at Gunnersbury in south-west London.

The track breach also affects the London Overground service.

There is currently no service between Richmond and Gunnersbury.

The service between South Tottenham and Barking Riverside has been suspended due to a signal fault on Walthamstow Queen’s Road, according to the latest status update from TfL.

TfL also warned of “severe delays” on the Northern Line caused by a fire alarm at Clapham Common.
