Eurozone annual inflation down to 2.5%

Overview

Eurozone According to a flash estimate by Statistics Netherlands (CBS), annual inflation is expected to be 2.5% in June 2024, down from 2.6% in May. Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.

Looking at the main components of inflation in the euro area, the services sector is expected to have the highest annual rate in June (4.1%, stable compared to May), followed by food, alcohol and tobacco (2.5%, compared to 2.6% in May), industrial goods (0.7%, stable compared to May) and energy (0.2%, compared to 0.3% in May).

Revisions and Schedule

The flash estimate of inflation in the euro area is published at the end of each reference month.

The full set of Harmonised Indices of Consumer Prices (HICP) for the euro area, the EU and the Member States is published around the middle of the month following the reference month.

The next release with full data for June 2024 is scheduled for July 17, 2024.

Methods and definitions

Annual inflation is the change in the price level of consumer goods and services between the current month and the same month in the previous year. Monthly inflation is the change in the price level between the current month and the previous month.

Geographic information

The eurozone consists of Belgium, Germany, Estonia, Ireland, Greece, Spain, France, Croatia, Italy, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Austria, Portugal, Slovenia, Slovakia and Finland.

The euro area data refer to the composition of the country at a specific point in time. Changes in the composition of the euro area are processed using a chain index formula.
