Person hit by train causes major delays for travelers at Glastonbury – live updates

Moment gates are officially opened for Glastonbury 2024 as the crowds head to Worthy Farm

Glastonbury 2024 festival-goers are facing delays after a person was reportedly hit by a train, causing line closures for travelers leaving London.

This was announced by the British Transport Police Daily mail that officers were called to the scene around 7:30 am today after “reports of a victim on the track”. Police said paramedics also attended but “unfortunately one person was pronounced dead at the scene”.

Thousands more Glastonbury ticket holders will arrive at Worthy Farm in Somerset today as fears of a washout are allayed by the latest Met Office report predicting cloudy spells and “occasionally a bit of rain” for sunshine and isolated showers this afternoon.

It is expected to remain mainly dry until Sunday, with temperatures between 18 and 21 degrees.

An eclectic line-up will be performing across the sprawling festival’s stages throughout the weekend. You can check out the full Glastonbury line-up and times here.

Earlier this week, Glastonbury organizers confirmed they will not broadcast England’s last 16 at the 2024 European Championship during the festival.

If you’re following from home, the BBC has shared its coverage schedule for the weekend.

PHOTOS: Ravers 2 Runners jog around the Glastonbury festival site

Our critic James Hall took pictures of around 450 joggers, who call themselves Ravers 2 Runners, as they walked around the Glastonbury festival site.

“Every man for himself, they’re having an absolute ball,” he says. “Personally, I like it old-fashioned… I’m going to have a wood-fired sauna in an old caravan on the old travelers field.”

Warning of GWR train delays from London after track closed due to incident

Great Western Railway (GWR) previously said all lines at West Ealing, in the west of the capital, were blocked due to “emergency services dealing with an incident near the railway line”.

This affected services to and from London Paddington, which is on the route to Castle Cary in Somerset, the nearest station to Glastonbury Festival.

A spokesperson for the train company confirmed this The independent that the lines are now open again.

“Trains are now running to and from Paddington, including those to the Glastonbury Festival, but there will still be some delays due to lost trains and crew,” she added.

The Independent’s Glastonbury team reports dark clouds and some rain this morning

Our intrepid team of reporters and critics are on the ground at the Glastonbury Festival, where writer Adam White sends in a photo of some ominous-looking clouds looming over Worthy Farm.

“The rain has started!” he tells me, but is reassured when I point out that the Met Office says things should brighten up this afternoon*.

Glastonbury fans warned due to travel disruptions

Music fans traveling by train to Glastonbury Festival on Thursday may experience disruption.

Great Western Railway (GWR) said all lines at West Ealing in west London are blocked due to “emergency services dealing with an incident near the railway line”.

This will affect services to and from London Paddington, which is on the route to Castle Cary, the nearest station to Glastonbury Festival.

Passengers are warned to expect disruption until midnight.

GWR said earlier this month it plans to provide more than 28,600 seats on trains from London Paddington to Castle Cary for festival-goers between Wednesday and Friday.

It warned that the early and mid-morning trains on Wednesday and Thursday were almost fully booked.
