One-of-one Singer Vehicle Design ACS for sale

By 2021, it was starting to feel like we’d seen everything there was to see in the way of restomod Porsche 911s. There were million-dollar builds, track superstars, high-end hot rods, and everything in between. When even Targas got Fuchs wheels and a nice suspension overhaul, there didn’t seem to be much else to do. But Singer Vehicle Design had other ideas.

The All-Terrain Competition Study was unveiled in January 2021, just the kind of good news that would wake us from our collective festive slumber. A collaboration between Singer and Tuthill Porsche – a true dream team of classic Porsche brilliance – a pair of cars were created as part of a single commission. The two ACS cars were intended to evoke the glory days of rally 911s like the SC/RS (before Porsche made a 992 Dakar official), and were built with different terrains in mind. There was a Corsica Red car built with asphalt rallies in mind, and then the Parallax White, which was presented to the world three and a half years ago. It was created with dune bashing and desert running in mind. It is now also for sale: the actual car.

The specification was as high quality as we have come to expect from all Singer and Tuthill builds. Nothing was left to chance when it came to the ultimate tribute to the 911 rally. Although still based on a 964 (is there a standard anymore?), the monocoque was strengthened, the dramatic new bodywork was made from carbon fiber and a competition-spec roll cage was installed. The dampers were adjustable in five directions (!), with two units on each corner for ultimate control over the rally car; the gearbox was sequential, there were plated LSDs on both axles and in the center and the handbrake was hydraulic. In fact, the ACS was more than just a celebration of off-road 911s: it was certified for competition – complete with a booze system and GPS navigation.

It’s not clear if this car has seen much abuse since 2021; given the condition it is in now and its likely value, the life it has led has undoubtedly been a more peaceful one. Not that the rides he was exposed to would have been anything like that; In addition to the racing transmission, a Mezger turbo flat six was boosted to 450 hp, which will make for a very powerful Porsche with so much carbon in the construction and so little interior. Also check out those original press photos – in the right situation this becomes epic fun.

Just like the current Dakar, albeit with even more extreme possibilities, the ACS offers room for all kinds of adventures. It would be kept purely for off-road use, which is what it was made and certified for; whether it’s actually a competition or just for fun, it’s going to be mega. You’d just hope it can be registered on the road too, because there are still lights, wipers and so on. And even if that isn’t the case right now, people have made the Zonda Rs road legal. Where there is a will there is a way. Perhaps it could even be turned into a more asphalt-oriented 911, like the red car. Tuthill knows all about it, of course. It can be anything, but it is always extremely entertaining and unique.

That last status certainly counts for a lot. There were 450 Classic Study Singers made – the 964s we all call Singer restomods – before things really got out of hand. When one does come up for sale, it usually goes for around a million pounds. The ACS is more extreme, more advanced and a lot rarer; remember, there were only two made for one person. We’re all fond of saying you’ll never see another one of this specification or that, but here’s a genuine one-off build by two of the most respected names in Porsche building that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll be Luftgekült royalty, the talk of the town at Rennsport Reunion. Worth millions in itself, surely, before you even consider the fun behind the wheel.
