Fortnite fans are counting down to the release of the season’s biggest update. In a pleasant and unexpected surprise, Epic Games has announced plans to release a brand new weekend update. Fortnite update 30.20 has a release date of June 22 for PS5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC and Android. With the next update adding a new game mode called Fortnite OG Reload, Epic plans to release the update alongside a period of extended server downtime. Fortnite servers will be taken offline for maintenance at 6am UK time on Saturday morning. Matchmaking will be shut down around 5:30 AM and the servers are expected to be back online around 10:00 AM BST.
The news was announced by Epic Games on X, alongside information about new tournament times.
“Downtime for v30.20 will begin at 1am ET and matchmaking will end shortly before,” reads a message from Epic Games.
“Due to the downtime, we have made the following changes to the tournament schedule: Earlier start times for OCE and Asia Rated Cups & Rated Cup Solo Zero Build. The start time of OCE FNCS Major 3 Open Qualifier 2 has been postponed by one hour.”
As for Fortnite OG Reload, the upcoming game mode is bringing back a ton of classic locations from Chapter 1.
As you can see in the teaser trailer below, this includes Tilted Towers, Pleasant Park, Retail Row, Lil’ Loot Lake, Sandy Sheets, and Lazy Laps.
Judging from the teaser, OG Reload’s battlefield is smaller than the current map, which should result in faster games, perhaps with fewer participants.
Fans will surely find out when the full Fortnite Reload trailer drops on June 21 at 5am UK time. The trailer is embedded further down the page, so check back often to watch the full trailer.
In addition to the launch of Fortnite Reload, the new update is expected to include files for the upcoming summer event.
The annual summer event typically kicks off in time for the 4th of July celebrations in the US.
It adds limited-time items such as fireworks, firearms, and ice cream cones, while adding new POIs to explore.
There’s usually an exclusive set of challenges, complete with a range of bonus rewards separate from the Battle Pass.
Speaking of the Battle Pass, Fortnite update 30.20 is expected to add Magneto to the Battle Pass, complete with a new set of challenges.
New items are expected to include the Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle, while new skins will likely feature characters from Pirates of the Caribbean.
Naturally, update 30.20 will also include a selection of bug fixes and gameplay tweaks, which you can see below.
