Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead has followed up last week’s release of the game’s big balance update and premium warbond with a new patch that applies a long list of fixes.
The highlight is a fix for the Spear support strategy, which has had all kinds of issues since the co-op shooter for PC and PlayStation 5 launched earlier this year. What should be a reliable monster of a weapon has been fickle for so long, with the anti-tank homing missile failing to properly track locked targets.
According to the patch notes of update 1.000.402, there is a fix for the spear not targeting multiple entities (spawners, compound objects, etc.). This should encourage more players to take the spear to the battlefield.
And here’s another nifty fix: Hellbombs are now called down facing the player, instead of away from the player. Players have gotten used to Hellbombs being pointed away from them, so this will take some unlearning.
Arrowhead also updated its known issues list, outlining what the studio is working on with upcoming patches. Note that the Bile Titan sometimes takes no damage to the head, and the Charger’s butt takes no damage from explosions. What an ass!
Last week was a big week for Helldivers 2 and Arrowhead, which recently revealed that they were setting up the studio so it could “make more and better stuff” in the long run. In an introductory post on redditnew CEO Shams Jorjani, who recently replaced former Arrowhead CEO and now current Chief Creative Officer Johan Pilestedtsaid that the studio has had to adapt to the enormous success that Helldivers 2 brought to the company.
Helldivers 2 is the fastest-selling PlayStation game of all time, selling a whopping 12 million copies in just 12 weeks since it went on sale earlier this year. Amid the massive revenue that Helldivers 2 has generated, Arrowhead itself has faced a number of crises, including issues with its launch server and, most recently, a battle with Sony itself over the console maker’s controversial attempt to rip off Steam players. force them to link their account to PlayStation Network.
