Complete list of products recalled from sandwich suppliers during Britain’s E. coli outbreak

Sandwich and salad maker Greencore Group, which supplies stores such as Asda and Sainsbury’s, has recalled a number of products, ITV News’ Ian Woods reports.

Sandwiches, wraps and salads sold at some major British supermarkets are being recalled due to a possible link to an E. coli outbreak that has left people in hospital.

Officials from manufacturers Greencore Group, Samworth Brothers Manton Wood and DIT! said the move was a “precautionary measure.”

E. coli is usually a harmless bacteria found in the intestines of people and animals, but people infected with strains like Stec can become seriously ill.

As of June 11, the number of cases linked to the Stec outbreak stood at 211, an increase of 98 since a previous update from the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) on June 6. Based on information from 160 cases so far, 42% were admitted. to the hospital.

Earlier this month, the agency confirmed that at least 37 people had been hospitalized following the E. coli outbreak, which it believed was linked to food.

Whole genome sequencing of samples showed that the majority of the 113 cases reported in the UK between May 25 and June 4 were part of a single outbreak. Around 147 cases have been confirmed in England, with 27 in Wales, 35 in Scotland and two in Northern Ireland believed to have become ill in England.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) said Greencore Group is recalling products from retailers including Boots, Asda, Co-op, Aldi and Amazon due to “possible E.coli contamination”.

Darren Whitby, head of incidents at the FSA, described the move as a “precautionary measure” taken “following findings from investigations by the Food Standards Agency (FSA), Food Standards Scotland (FSS) and the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) )” .

“Infections caused by STEC bacteria can cause severe bloody diarrhea and in some cases more serious complications. We therefore advise all consumers who have any of these products not to eat them,” he added.

He said the FSA “will not hesitate to take action” if food is not safe.
