Updated June 17 with details on the next Galaxy Unpacked event: Article originally posted on June 15.
Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event will be the time when the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is presented to the public. Still, many details about the hardware and design have emerged in the run-up to the July launch. Now we have our best view yet of the foldable next generation.
Update: Monday June 17.
While Samsung has yet to publicly confirm the dates for the next Galaxy Unpacked event, leaked images have been published by technology reporter Evan Blass. This has highlighted July 10 as the launch date, when the new Galaxy Z Fold 6 is expected to be unveiled, alongside the smaller Galaxy Z Flip 6 foldable, the new Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch Ultra, and the Galaxy Buds 3 and Buds 3 Pro. .
With several smartphone launches in the coming months, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will be one of the first flagships to debut in the second half of the year. Samsung took the lead with the January launch of the Galaxy S24 family and the included Galaxy AI software. Now it wants to do the same with its two new foldable models.
Notably, the July 10 date is earlier than previous Galaxy Unpacked events scheduled for the summer. Since Samsung is one of the main sponsors of the Summer Olympics, the launch of its new hardware ahead of the association with one of the biggest global sporting events should enable a significant number of activations during the French hosting of the Games.

While we may not see the impact of Galaxy AI, we can see everything about what’s inside.
First up is the wider cover screen. Physically this isn’t a big difference from the Galaxy Z Fold 5, but the impact on the long and thin profile could be significant. The Android UI likes to have a big, long ribbon of information, whether it’s a social media timeline, an email inbox, or a list of album tracks, but these lists need plenty of width to display sufficient information. It was a bit tight on older models, so I’m curious to see how this little expansion turns out.
Then you have the silhouette of the design. Samsung has updated this to give the Galaxy Z Fold 6 a more angular shape. That increases the internal volume somewhat (something the original designers undoubtedly appreciated). It also reduces the radius of the corners, which in turn provides a sharper angle for the cover screen and internal display. That means more screen real estate, less lost information when watching media, and a more natural look for your information.
Finally, you have the camera island and the three camera lenses. Many in the Samsung community were hoping that the Z Fold 6 would see an update to the foldable’s optical hardware. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 camera was reused on last year’s Z Fold 5. The latest details indicated that Samsung used the same hardware in a third model, and Ice Universe’s model supports that information.
The industry is adopting AI as quickly as possible, and Samsung has gone all out to take the leading role on the Galaxy S24 family through Galaxy AI (and backport the AI features to the Galaxy S23 family). The Galaxy Z Fold 6, along with the new hardware, will contribute to that AI effort.
