An expert has warned iPhone users not to download iOS 18 because it appears to be ‘eavesdropping’.

The beta, a pre-release available to some users before the software is rolled out commercially, has been available since Apple unveiled the update at its WWDC event on Monday.

However, users who downloaded the iOS 18 beta may encounter a slew of issues with their phone’s performance, including reduced battery life and charging issues, missing or undelivered notifications, and certain apps not working.

It’s important to keep in mind that the beta isn’t quite ready for everyday iPhone use yet and it’s risky to download it if you only have one phone.

The software is not yet in its final form, and therefore anyone who downloads it will expose themselves to a host of inconveniences and shutdowns if the system catches a bug while trying to find their feet.

Tech writer Michael Swengel turned to X to remind people that downloading the software onto your main device is not recommended.

“Reminder: It’s probably NOT a good idea to upgrade your (only) main device to a beta version,” he wrote.

‘This is the very first public beta. There will be bugs.

“If you want to test the beta, I recommend using another device if you have one.”

Apple’s launch of iOS 18 looks enticing as there will be a host of new features that could make life easier, including ways to customize the home screen, schedule messages, the company’s new AI additions through Apple Intelligence and much more more.

However, the version is designed for early developers who are trained to find bugs in the software.

And bugs abound.

He also found that the new Lock and Hide an App feature, which allows apps to be invisible or accessible only via FaceID, wasn’t working as intended because he couldn’t open an app after locking or hiding it.

Another tech enthusiast discovered that when using iOS 18 beta, the app logos would disappear if the home screen tone and color was changed.

While the iOS 18 beta is easy to download for those with an iPhone, there won’t be a long wait for the full-fledged product.

Apple has announced that the software will be released later this year, which could be as early as September, when Apple has a habit of dropping new software alongside new devices – with the iPhone 16 next in line.

But if you can’t wait until then and download the software, you’ve been warned that it may not function as futuristically as you’d like.
