Yesterday at the Summer GameFest 2024 presentation, M. Bison, Terry Bogard, Mai Shiranui and Elena were revealed as the characters coming to Street Fighter 6 via the Year 2 Character Pass. Although Capcom initially planned to release the M. Bison gameplay trailer on June 8, 2024 at 8:00 AM PT / 11:00 AM ET, they ended up revealing the video significantly earlier.
No additional information about M. Bison’s release date is initially revealed, but Capcom would subsequently post a Tweet indicating that M. Bison would be released on June 26, 2024. That’s in less than three weeks.
Based on what the trailer shows us, it appears that M. Bison is suffering from amnesia. He doesn’t seem to recognize the name “M. Bison”, but claims he will adopt the name for himself.
As with all other playable characters in Street Fighter 6 so far, M. Bison can be interacted with during World Tour mode. He was encountered while horse riding. Additionally, M. Bison will also ride this horse with his arms crossed during his victory animation.
Needless to say, a certain series of missions has developed in World Tour mode as DLC characters have been added to Street Fighter 6. These missions all along pointed to the resurrection of M. Bison.
At some point during one of these optional quests, a confidential document can be obtained. Here we learn about a person of interest in Mexico who was observed bringing a dying horse back to life. This horse is likely the one we see in this trailer.
Despite suffering from amnesia, this is very clearly M. Bison in terms of his mannerisms and playing style. Many of M. Bison’s classic moves return in Street Fighter 6.
As always, you see purple energy coming from M. Bison’s body. However, there are also some cases where M. Bison uses a green glow instead.
M. Bison has access to his Double Knee Press (also known as the Scissor Kick) and the Psycho Crusher. These are both progressive specials that really highlight M. Bison as a character in a hurry.
It turns out that the normal version of the Psycho Crusher can absorb a projectile hit and still retain a hitbox that hits the opponent. The Overdrive Psycho Crusher, on the other hand, will simply phase M. Bison by the projectile.
The Overdrive Knee Press will now actually launch the opponent into the air. This allows M. Bison to continue juggling the opponent for extra damage.
He also retains access to the Head Press (aka the Head Stomp) and Devil’s Reverse specials. The combination of these two makes it extremely difficult to anti-air M. Bison, because it’s always a guessing game with him.
The Overdrive Head Press seems to turn into a movie when it hits the opponent. However, it also appears that this move can be used as an OTG (from the ground). When used this way, M. Bison can continue the combo for a little longer.
As of Street Fighter 5, M. Bison still appears to have access to a variation of the Psycho Charge, which essentially places a bomb on the opponent. Normally this was only available to M. Bison during his V-Trigger 2, but now it seems like he simply has access to it all the time in Street Fighter 6.
After a certain duration, the Psycho Charge detonates, launching the opponent into the air. We have to imagine that scoring a hit on M. Bison while the Psycho Charge is active will effectively dispel the effect. That’s how it worked in Street Fighter 5, after all.
During the trailer, M. Bison is also shown to have an absolutely insane Drive Rush. He can very quickly close the space against the opponent from full screen by spending a bar of Drive Gauge.
His level 1 super art is known as the Nightmare Booster. His level 2 super art is essentially his Ultra 2, the Psycho Punisher, from Ultra Street Fighter 4.
Finally, we also get to see his level 3 super art, which can apparently be canceled from the first hit of his Psycho Crusher. The animation for the Critical Art version of this super will probably be slightly different.
