You may have wondered when the unofficial start of the tourist season would be, especially since the weather isn’t really an indicator of when summer is. Don’t be afraid, the time has come.
Not a single tourist season in Cornwall goes without at least one person driving onto a sandy beach and getting stuck. Well, we have one, which means crazy season is really underway now. This silver Subaru Forester did all that when it was driven onto Constantine Beach in the Seven Bays, near Padstow, and, despite being a four-wheel drive car, got stuck in the soft sand.
An onlooker who filmed the couple’s struggle to get out of their predicament told CornwallLive: “The silly season has begun. I saw this car driving on Constantine Beach last night. No one from the beach helped get him out of the sand, everyone just stood up. and looked because it shouldn’t be there.”

The incident happened on Thursday (June 6) at 8.46pm. One of the spectators said the female passenger tried to move some sand with her foot, but it didn’t make any difference, so the driver drove back and forth. In the video you can watch at the top of this article, the car appears to go but gets stuck again.
You can see the driver turning the car around as if to clear an extra stretch of beach to jump out of the sand, only to fall back into the soft sand and get stuck – again. The video shows a couple walking by in bewilderment as a group of beachgoers sit on the nearby dune and take it all in. After about 20 minutes of trying, the driver finally manages to get out.

In the video sent to us by our reader, you can see a woman standing outside the driver’s window, gesticulating and apparently arguing with the driver, while people who videotaped the scene provide the commentary.
Our reader sent us some videos of the incident. In one video, a woman can be heard saying, “Never a good idea to drive your car onto the beach.” You can hear someone else say, “What a to**er.” Others giggle and enjoy the couple’s misfortune rather uncharitably.
Eventually, the bearded male driver of the Subaru manages to turn the car around before revving up and gathering speed to drive off the sand and beach.
The onlooker added: “He certainly got himself into trouble and provided entertainment for everyone to watch. The exit was a bit inconsiderate and flew past people who were casually enjoying their evening.”

On this occasion there was no loss of the vehicle as the tide rose. No rescue services or tractors had to be called in to pull the car out of the sand and no one was injured, apart from perhaps someone’s pride.
But anyone who lives here will know or have seen other incidents where cars abandoned on the beach have suffered the worst fate than this Subaru.
Over the years we’ve almost lost count of the cases where vehicles, from BMWs to DPD vans, have become stuck in the sand or even lost at sea. We’ve seen tractor rescues, an ice cream truck rolling onto the beach, cars completely submerged – and lots of tears and hands on hips as people watch helplessly as it all unfolds.
Among the stuck vehicles was even a Ferrari that got stuck in the sand during a photo shoot. Scroll down for the 24 beach parking mistakes we remember in Cornwall. of previous “you can’t park here mate” moments for your enjoyment.
