Google has once again slashed the prices of its Pixel 8 range in a new sale, with discounts representing its biggest discount yet.
The company has taken $150 and $250 off the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro respectively. This is a huge discount deal that tops the other sales the company has made this year, most of which have hovered around the $150 and $200 discounted phones.
During a Google One promotion earlier this year, some subscribers to the service reported receiving $250 vouchers for a Pixel 8, but this new price cut is available to all US buyers.
Google says the deal runs until June 22 and there are several ways to further reduce the price of the phone. For example, the company has also increased its trade-in prices, with the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro valued at $330 and $500 respectively last year. The Pixel 6 Pro rings in at a decent $400, while the base Pixel 6 is priced at $250.
Google’s ratings are good if you own an older Pixel phone. But they don’t match some of the prices offered elsewhere. Two weeks ago, Apple handed over $650 for the iPhone 14 Pro Max, compared to Google’s valuation of $550.
Where Pixel buyers can save more money is through a 24-month Google Fi contract, which will provide up to $500 in cash via monthly credits. If you’re a Google One subscriber, you can also claim 10% store credit.

Another deal Google is offering for this new deal, spotted by The edge, is a 50% discount on the Pixel 8a when purchased in combination with the Pixel 8 or 8 Pro. Adding both to your cart drops the price of the Pixel 8a to $249.50, or $279.50 for the 256GB model.
Google is also giving away a $50 store credit on all Pixel 8a purchases. If shoppers combine this deal with the higher trade-in price and the cashback deal of 10% Google One Store credit, they can save a lot of money on Google’s latest technology.
Elsewhere, Google has taken $500 off the Pixel Fold, representing one of the biggest price cuts for the foldable device. The first generation Pixel Fold landed on June 28, 2024, so it could be weeks before the next iteration happens, which could explain the huge discount. It might be worth waiting to see what Google’s next Pixel Fold looks like and what pre-order offers (and trade-in deals) the company will launch alongside it.
High trade-in prices are a popular trend in 2024 for smartphone manufacturers. They resonate well with shoppers and have the added benefit of removing a customer from a competitor’s ecosystem. That’s why trade-in prices for technology from other companies are often higher. This is a tactic that Samsung has long used when launching a new product. The Korean company will increase resale values for iPhones, the Galaxy phone’s main rival, to lure buyers to the dark side of Android.
Google has also recently engaged in this practice. Last month, the company increased trade-in prices on the purchase of the Pixel Tablet, which had just been marked down. Google offered $399 for a sixth-generation iPad (released in 2018). Essentially, the Google Tablet is being made free.
The deal caught fire and caused a frenzy among Pixel Tablet buyers, who were flipping their homes in search of their long-forgotten Apple tablet. More enterprising deal hunters bought the iPad on eBay for $99. That rapid popularity forced Google to end the deal and drop the trade-in price of the iPad to $75 the next day. For those who were quick enough, Google confirmed to me that it was the original would respect the trade-in price.
If there’s one lesson tech buyers can learn in 2024, it’s to keep your old devices handy, because these trade-in deals will be frequent and plentiful. Even Apple, which rarely gets into the discount game, recently launched a new trade-in promotion. Samsung is releasing new hardware next month and I suspect we’ll see aggressive pricing from the company – from pre-order deals to higher trade-in prices.
