They’re at it again. Midori (みどり) is back with another potential codename from Nintendo, and it looks like it’s related to the Splatoon franchise.

In a new post on X, Midori says: “There is a game project underway at Nintendo codenamed Spiral. From researching the data I received over the past month, it is highly likely that this is the codename for the next installment in the Splatoon series”.

Obviously, we’ll reiterate: this should, as always, be treated as a rumor, but geez, a new Splatoon game? Yes, count us in. It also seems like a given, right? The franchise has only grown in popularity over time, so it would make sense for Nintendo to capitalize on this with the upcoming new console.

Midori also states that “I will be careful with Nintendo information now, because I want to be a comfortable plant with plenty of sunlight”. In other words, maybe don’t expect any more leaks related to Nintendo projects in the future. You know what The Big N is like.

Original article [Fri 31st May, 2023 14:00 BST]:

Prominent leaking Midori seems to have given up Pjoro recently had a run for their money, leaking details of unannounced game projects from multiple publishers, including Nintendo.

However, rather than outright hinting at upcoming announcements, Midori puts more emphasis on project codenames. So while we may be getting a glimpse of potential games in development at Nintendo, we (and Midori, it seems) are currently unable to definitively confirm what they pertain to.

Take the last few codenames for example: Midori reveals that Nintendo is working on projects with the codenames “Edward” and “Anna.” The first one states that this may be related to a new title in the Zelda franchise, while the latter may be a sequel to Nintendo Switch Sports. They clarify that Nintendo Switch Sports was developed with the codename ‘Elsa’, and for those who don’t know, Anna and Elsa are sisters in the Disney animated film Frozen. Sounds logical!

A project codenamed ‘SPRed’ also appears to be in development at Nintendo, with Midori confirming that ‘Red’ is the generic codename for Mario, while Super Mario Odyssey was developed under the codename ‘RedStar’. Of course, we doubt anyone would be surprised to hear that Nintendo is working on a new Mario game, but we’ll still take whatever evidence we can get.

They also reveal another Nintendo project codenamed ‘Banquet’specifying that this may be in development by the subsidiary NDCube, known for its work on the Mario party franchise, along with a developer called SmileBoom.

Moving away from the codenames, we know that new information about Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake is likely imminent from Square Enix after a recent tease, but Midori states this specifically that it will release during Nintendo’s upcoming June Direct showcase (which still has no confirmed date at the time of writing).

Finally, after revealing a internal logo for Atlus’ unannounced Person 6Midori confirms in a response that Persona 3 Reload, Persona 6, And upcoming unannounced Persona remakes will all be heading to Nintendo’s next system, currently called the ‘Switch 2’.

Relief! Yes, that’s a lot. As always, we strongly recommend that you approach any leaks with some skepticism. Midori has proven to be very reliable, but we all make mistakes, so it’s best to take this information with a grain of salt until proven otherwise.

Still, it’s exciting, right? We’re especially eager to see more Persona on Nintendo hardware, so we’re ready to see Persona 6 on the Switch 2. Hopefully it won’t be long before Atlus decides to spill the beans.
