Helldivers 2 is a fantastic multiplayer experience and perhaps the biggest success story of the year so far. Fans have definitely enjoyed their time with the game, but things have become a bit restless lately thanks to the lack of updates. This is a conscious choice on behalf of Arrowhead, and a community manager has clarified that Helldivers 2 fans shouldn’t expect the next update to be the “mother of all patches.”.
Arrowhead has said that they currently have ‘no date’ for the next update. While there is no scheduled launch day, they have been transparent with the community, telling fans that patches have been purposefully delayed so that the developers can better test balance changes before releasing them to the public. Arrowhead’s new CEO has also told fans that they are listening to player feedback, provided you don’t yell at the developers to jump off a cliff.
The number of players has dropped alarmingly, and many players believe this is due to the lack of new updates and content. We don’t know exactly when the next update will finally arrive, but there’s plenty to anticipate, even if the community has been warned not to expect the “mother of all patches” to resolve every complaint.
Helldivers 2 developer clarifies next update
Helldivers 2 community manager Twinbeard previously told fans on May 24 that Arrowhead never called the next patch a “balance update.” This was repeated to the fans to avoid sending out “wrong signals”.
While there’s no expected date for when the next update will drop, Twinbeard assured fans that it’s “simmering nicely.” All this was communicated to fans on the series’ official Discord channel.
Telling fans that they never called the next patch a “balance update,” some players misinterpreted the community manager’s message as a disclaimer that no balance changes will be included. This concerned some players, but Twinbeard clarified what they actually meant by responding to one player’s concerns.
In response to a player’s concerns about no incoming balance changes at all, community manager Twinbeard issued the following message:
“I didn’t say there will be no balance or that there will only be bug fixes. There will definitely be a little bit of everything. What I wanted was to try to avoid the next patch being seen as “the mother of all patches” or a special balance patch, because we needed more time to do this than previous patches. I hope it’s fairly clear – or as clear as something can be if you can’t go into details.”
The message from the community manager makes it clear that we will be getting balance updates, but it is not a “specific balance patch” nor is it “the mother of all patches” that will solve every complaint within the community. This gives players some hope while also informing fans to keep expectations realistic.
As for what we can expect from updates in the future, the developer has said that they are working on a fix to help players who have been kicked out by troll lobby leaders. Arrowhead is also exploring the possibility of adding an emote wheel with more emotes, and the developer has told fans that they believe a fix to the spear complaint is coming.
We must also remember that the Illuminate will make their presence known. An upcoming mission brings us closer to the arrival of the Illuminate, and leaks have shown a four-armed enemy of the Illuminate, along with a new weapon belonging to the alien race.
