Animal Well and Dave the Diver score high as the first PS Plus games

Using a sample of gameplay data from over 3.1 million active PSN accounts (courtesy of our partnership with GameInsights), we tracked the number of debutants for every PS5 and PS4 game added to PS Plus Extra. This includes Animal welfarewhich quickly claimed its spot as the fifth-largest number of PS Plus Extra debut players for 2024 (according to data from the week ending Sunday, May 19, 2024).
Announced as one of the PS Plus Extra and Premium games for April 2024, Animal welfare actually saw a staggered PS5 release on Tuesday, May 7, 2024. The PS5 game was the third and final day one launch game announced in the PS Plus Extra lineup for April, following the PS5 and PS4 debut of Dave the diver and Tales from Kenzera Zau.
While the day one PS Plus launch of Animal Well attracted 89.36% fewer active PS5 players than Dave the Diverthat’s hardly a surprise. Dave the diver is not only the biggest PS Plus Extra game of 2024 so far, it’s also the third biggest PS Plus Extra game ever. The fact that there is only an 89% difference in the number of debuting players is a testament to how popular they are Animal welfare is.

That being said, Animal welfare topped the PS Plus Extra debut of Stories by Kenzera Zau with 14.75% – an impressive performance considering that Animal welfare was buried even more by Sony’s poor PS Plus Extra interface then Zau. That makes Animal welfare the second biggest PS Plus Extra game from the April 2024 lineup and the the sixth biggest day one PS Plus Extra game to hit the market to date.
Now that all of the games from April 2024 are in the hands of subscribers, we can finally see a final count of the number of PS Plus Extra players of the month. Finally, The April 2024 PS Plus Extra games attracted 56.19% more attention from PS5 and PS4 players than the February 2024 lineup – the previous best-performing PS Plus lineup this year. It appears that the combined forces of The need for speed is limitless And The outside worlds have nothing on Dave the diver And Animal welfare.
Animal welfarePS Plus Extra’s success here is yet another reminder that PS Plus Extra needs monthly Day One games if it really wants to grab players’ attention. Give PS5 and PS4 subscribers the chance to try new games, even experimental ones they might not normally try, like Animal welfare — makes PS Plus Extra feel like a valuable service that offers new experiences to its customers.
