Today’s Connections hint and answer on May 25 for 349

It’s finally Saturday and even on a busy weekend there’s always time for word search puzzles. To make things easier for you, we are here to help you with the Connections answers for today, May 25.

If you haven’t played it before, Connections challenges you to divide a group of 16 words into four groups, with all the words properly connected. This connection could be because they share a similar meaning, being part of a place name, objects found in a kitchen or whatever!

While this may sound simple, the Connection groups each have a different difficulty level: Yellow is the easiest and Purple is the hardest. For this reason, exercise today’s Connection answer may be quite difficult. You may catch one group right away, but another group may be a mystery to you. Luckily, we’re here to help!

Originally developed during the New York Times games department’s annual game jam, the beta version of Connections was released in June 2023. Since then, it has become one of the most popular games The NYTimes has to offer, beaten only by Worlde. Although some connections have been made with the BBC’s Only Connect programme…

  • Vegetable – As for starting things.
  • Blue – Same as helping someone or something.
  • Purple – Think about pronouns.
  • Sign belongs in the yellow group, Maiden in Green and Endorse in Blue.

Remember: Yellow is the easiest group to find, followed by Green and Blue, with Purple being the most difficult set of words to connect.

Connecting words for May 25

Here are the words in today’s Connection Puzzle. See if the above clues help you form a connection before we move on to today’s answer:

Initial Here Small Theme
Recommend Girl Prime Minister Champion
Sign Support Banner Usage
First Poster Back Billboard

Connections will respond before May 25

Without further ado, here is the Connections answer for today:

  • Ad size – Banner, billboard, poster, sign.
  • Inaugural – First: Initial, Maiden, Premier.
  • Lawyer for – Back, champion, endorse, support.
  • Pronoun Plus “E” – Here, Theme, Use, Woe

Although unexpected, the first group I got right this time was the Purple. After saying Wee out loud, I thought it might have something to do with the pronoun. Then I just started looking for words that looked like pronouns. The second group I found was the yellow one, an easy one if you think of Billboard, Poster and Sign. Immediately afterwards came the Blue and Green groups. Regardless of what the colors say, I think the blue was easier to figure out than the green this time. Champion, Endorse and Support are powerful words whose correlation is easy to recognize.

What to play after Connections?

The obvious answer to this question is Wordle, but if you’ve already solved that today, The New York Times offers other games. When it comes to word-based games, The NYTimes has the Mini Crossword, Spelling Bee, Letter Boxed, and Strands, which are still in beta. If you fancy a break from words, you can also try Tiles – a motif matching game – or Sudoku.

NYT Games

Outside of The NYTimes, there’s Semantle, where you have to find the secret word by guessing its meaning. Spelling doesn’t count in Semantle, but you should pay attention to the numerical value of your guesses to map your path to the answer. However, if you prefer to stick with the Connections format, then it’s worth checking out Puzzgrid. Here you will find hundreds of Connections-style puzzles, but the special thing is that you only have three minutes to solve them.

(You can also watch Only Connect on BBC iPlayer…)

If you’re in a reading mood, we discussed why The NYTimes Mini Crossword is so reliable and interviewed Jonathan Knight, Head of Games for The NYTimes.

Good luck solving today’s connections!
