Tuesday’s letters page thinks Microsoft and Sony should copy Nintendo more, as a reader wants a remake of Indiana Jones And The Fate Of Atlantis.

From From with love
I’m not sure what gets me more excited: the prospect of Shadow Of Erdtree releasing soon or the fact that this means From will probably announce a new game pretty soon after that. Despite the size of their games, they seem to knock them out quite quickly; last year we only had Armored Core 6, so I guess they’re well on their way to the next one, especially since Shadow Of Erdtree is just DLC (I know it’s big DLC, but still).
It’s extra exciting because this would supposedly be their first current-gen title (the idea that Microsoft is thinking of a new-gen in 2026 is ridiculous, considering so many developers have only released cross-gen games so far).
I think Elden Ring 2 is a fair choice, but I don’t think they would do it so quickly. Bloodborne 2 might be more likely, but everything surrounding that game was handled so strangely that it’s hard to tell. Personally, I’m hoping for something new. Maybe that sci-fi soul that fans have been imagining for so long. I want my Giger-esque From game!

COD layer
Why do I find it so easy to believe the rumors of a price increase and a new tier of Game Pass just to account for Call Of Duty? I don’t know what this Extra Ultimate level will cost, but the bad publicity surrounding it will be a new home target for Microsoft. While that might not be entirely fair, because I don’t know what else they could do, they now know that Game Pass is just a niche thing.
I just hope that Xbox, and PlayStation for that matter, have a good summer showing, but I’m not hoping for much more than more blunders. Some sort of actual apology/explanation for the past twelve months would be best, but I don’t think those Xbox executives could ever bring themselves to do that. You saw how during that announcement they could hardly get the words out of their mouths about the switch to multi-format.

Preparations for birthdays
I’m still confused whether there will be a remake of Resident Evil 1 in 2026 or not? So the tweet going around from Dusk Golem was fake? That surprises me, because it made perfect sense to me to do that for the 30th anniversary, especially since they’re running out of other remakes now.
So the obvious question after that is: if they don’t, what are they going to do before the 30th? Especially since they missed the 25th due to the pandemic, they need to do something big, but what? I actually have no idea unless Capcom is trying to make another crossover multiplayer game, which I’m pretty sure no one wants.
How about an official demake of one of the modern games, maybe Resident Evil 9 if it comes out by then? Or maybe as an option, put terrible, cheesy dialogue and bad voice acting into the recent games. That would be pretty funny. I also wouldn’t mind if there were new, cheap spin-offs, like maybe a tactics game or some sort of puzzle game.
Resident Evil has such a great cast of characters, you can really do a lot with them that hasn’t really been explored outside of the strange Marvel Vs. Capcom cameo.

GC: Nothing has been confirmed either way, but Dusk Golem – the most reliable Resident Evil leaker – says he doesn’t think the rumors are true.

Oldest child in the neighborhood
Very interesting to see an old Nintendo interview resurface and once again you see that they absolutely understand the dangers of the dead end that Microsoft and Sony have backed themselves into at the moment. It’s not that Nintendo doesn’t make mistakes, but it’s usually because one of their weird ideas doesn’t work. But they are always focused on trying something different and not on graphics as the only way to sell a console.
I’m glad the Switch 2 is coming now, in this time when Xbox and PlayStation are letting us down so much. I just hope the new boss at Nintendo understands things as well as Iwata-san. He hasn’t really been tested yet and while he hasn’t done anything wrong so far, he hasn’t really done anything particularly positive either. Although I find the idea that the Switch 2 has been delayed to get things right encouraging.
Nintendo has been around so much longer than Microsoft and Sony and yet they continue to ignore them in terms of trying to do things their way. Maybe one day they’ll learn not to ignore the oldest company in gaming.

Since remakes are so popular right now, I wish they would make one for Indiana Jones And The Fate Of Atlantis. As far as I’m concerned, this is the best point-and-click adventure, but it’s also the best Indiana Jones story outside of the first three films. But you play it today and it’s… old and the voiceover isn’t the best.
I’d love to see it be a big budget 3D adventure. Keep the same basic story and some puzzles, and improve the action element. Perhaps you can choose to have different difficulty levels for the puzzles, so that the highest one is just like the original.
I know it will never happen, but I just have a horrible feeling that the new game will be a generic first-person action game and they will never mess with the IP again, especially after the last movie.

Strange connections
RE: Chaosphere’s Xbox won’t turn on properly. My Xbox Series X seems to be having similar issues. I’ve had the machine for about three years and about twelve months ago I started noticing strange things.
I always connect via my mobile hotspot on my phone. So I turn on the mobile hotspot, wait a minute, press the Xbox Guide button on the controller, the Xbox Series . For a few startups in a row, everything is as it should be.
Then it starts to matter for a while. I turn on the mobile hotspot, press the Xbox guide button, the screen goes black for at least a minute, maybe longer, the Xbox then starts making noises like it’s reading a disk, then the password screen comes on, I enter my password , the home screen turns on, but it never connects to my mobile hotspot. I then have to press and hold the Xbox guide button and restart the machine. This almost always fixes the problem, I get the password screen on and my Xbox connects to my mobile hotspot.
Once it’s connected online and the home screen is on, everything works fine.
However, when I boot the machine using the Xbox guide button on my steering wheel (the connection is from the steering wheel to the USB port on the front of the machine), it boots normally every time. Foreign.
I’ve often wondered if it’s because the machine sometimes doesn’t recognize the controller properly or if there might be a problem with the disk mechanism. I expect my Xbox Series
I don’t really know what to do about it other than watch some people on YouTube doing repairs. They seem sincere enough.
Still, I can’t live without it. Telly’s nonsense; There’s never anything worth watching.
A bit long-winded; Sorry.

Pointing with the finger
How about you all write about how you (the gamer forums) have really killed consoles and limited innovation!
You’ve fanned the flames of the console wars, supported the PlayStation propaganda, and caused most of the problems without talking about all the actual innovation that has been released that has kept developers from releasing more content.

GC: Sorry?
Golden oldies
When I play Forza Horizon 4 or 5, I listen to the songs playing very briefly, then turn off the in-game radio and listen to BBC Radio 4 podcasts through my Samsung Flip5 instead.
I’m 42 and don’t like modern music, but still play games.
Why didn’t these developers remember that older people play games too and add 90s songs to it?
Is it because the licenses for those songs are too expensive or is it because the said developers don’t/don’t want to take into account those of us who started playing in the 1990s?
I remember playing GTA: San Andreas for the first time in 2006 and being blown away after hearing that my dad listened to reggae on cassette tapes when I was a kid in the early 90’s, taken from a modern (at the time) game .
And for the record, I’ll list some of my favorite licensed soundtracks below (in alphabetical order):
- Fallout 3
- Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
- GTA 5 (PS3 era)
- Need for speed: underground 1
- True Crime: New York City
- Unlimited test driving 2
I’m looking forward to Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown and will most likely buy an Xbox Series

GC: We think this is more specifically a Forza Horizon thing, which went to great lengths to appeal to younger players.

That deleted Modern Warfare 3 ending was pretty weird. Literally putting Death into Call Of Duty isn’t something I’ve ruled out. They could have had a Castlevania crossover and all that.

I think I’m in the minority here, but does anyone really like the building options in Fallout 4 and Starfield? They are so clumsy and difficult to do anything interesting with. Or maybe I just don’t have the patience for it.
